Picturing Family: Visions of West Africa / Bridgeport CT Show

More than 100 people gathered at City Lights Gallery in Bridgeport, CT on Nov.13, 2015 to celebrate the opening of this traveling photo show. Photos will remain on display until Dec. 3, 2015.

The photo show features the work of teen girls from The Gambia, who run photo businesses so they can afford to stay in school. The girls are part of an after-school enrichment program run by Gambian-led Starfish International.

All proceeds from donations collected and photo sales go towards the photo entrepreneurship program.

  • Work from local teen photographers also featured, from Central High School, Bassick High School, Lauralton Hall High School, and WorkPlace.
  • Show sponsored by Humanity Now
  • Food and entertainment provided by the CT Gambian Association
  • Drum performance by Senegalese drummer Waly Thaim
  • Starfish International co-founder attended and provided more information about the girls’ enrichment program, which offers small business training, academic enrichment classes, and life skills training.
