Join Humanity Now for Fairfield Clean-Up Day April 22
Students, residents, and community groups will work together cleaning up areas around town picking up trash, cleaning underpasses, and other areas on Sunday morning April 22, 2018 from 9:00-12:00. Meet at the Gazebo on the Town Green starting at 8:00 am to pick up bags and sign waivers. Areas to be cleaned will include, but not be limited to, the train stations, beaches, Ash Creek area, and playgrounds. Volunteers are encouraged to adopt pre-designated areas or join existing groups of volunteers.
Prior to and during the clean-up Humanity Now will be raising both awareness and donations to support bringing clean water to the underdeveloped world. Proceeds from the recycling of cans and bottles between now and Earth Day will be used to buy water filters for a partner community in Ecuador.
Proceeds from last year’s event allowed us to deliver water filters with the capacity to filter 70 million gallons of water and removing the risk of diseases like cholera and typhoid. 70 million gallons is equivalent to 106 Olympic size swimming pools worth of water. The filters were delivered to communities in Ecuador, Haiti, and Puerto Rico.
Wristbands will be given to volunteers which will be good for discounts at local restaurants and businesses the week of April 23-29, 2018. There will be a prize for the most unusual item in addition to other prizes in a drawing for volunteers.
